Elisabeth Badinter's "Fausse Route" – Differential Approach To Understanding The Gender War
[ send me this essay ]
10 pages in length. There is no secret that men and women are extraordinarily diverse creatures when compared from a multitude of angles; with perhaps the only aspect of similarity being their humanness, the male and female gender share little in the way of thoughts, emotions, physicality or virtually anything else. Feminists argue quite the opposite is true, claiming men and women are much more alike than people care to admit, however, women continue to be oppressed within patriarchal dominance. Elisabeth Badinter, author of Fausse Route, herself is a self-proclaimed feminist of a different sort, contends that women have no more been victimized by their male counterparts than have men sought to victimize them; instead, the author claims women themselves are to blame for the place they hold – and have long held – within society due to their inability to strike out and seize their autonomy. In short, Badinter credits – or blames – the elements of nature versus nurture in the differential sense to explain why the gender war continues to rage in the contemporary global society. Bibliography lists 3 sources.

Elisabeth Badinter's "Fausse Route" – Men And Women
[ send me this essay ]
8 pages in length. Elisabeth Badinter's Fausse Route might be considered one of the most scathing accounts of gender separation ever put into print. The author, whose personal reflections of the inequities of a patriarchal society equate to a vilification in the greatest sense, believes women have long had the ability to control their own destinies but have been wholly incapable of doing so; her final conclusion is things will not get any better in the coming years if women do not find their backbone and stand up for their autonomy. This fatalistic approach to the man/woman battle that has existed for ages illustrates the extent to which Badinter (2003) decries this perpetuated gender oppression. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Fairy Tales: Lasting Influence On Attitudes Later In Life
[ send me this essay ]
5 pages in length. It is not difficult to realize that impressionable young girls are getting their first introduction to female relationships and sisterhood through a fairy tale that places sibling love and respect below all other aspects of a healthy relationship. Additionally, young readers are taught that the world is dominated by patriarchal figures to which women are not allowed to oppose, being forced to abide by the rules set down for them without making any fuss. Laurence Behrens and Leonard J. Rosen, authors of Writing and Reading Across the Curriculum, contend it is no wonder that young girls grow up into womanhood with a distorted impression of love, relationships and sisterhood, inasmuch as when they finally embark upon the real world, they are rudely awakened to the fact that life is nothing like it had been portrayed in the well-worn fairy tale Cinderella. Various vignettes throughout the book illustrate the manner by which this particular fairy tale gives young girls the wrong lesson about female relationships. No additional sources cited.
