of the sixth century BC. It is one of the only
complete early Kouroi outside of Greece to be seen,
and perhaps the only one in America. Certainly, it
is one of the most important and rare works of the
art in the Metropolitan Greek collection. It
epitomizes the early Archaic style, with its static
posture, one foot forward, arms held tightly by the
side, gaze straight ahead.

Ma Yuan/Artist of the Song Dynasty
